Golgotha's Games - SPQR Warlord Games - Alexandrian Successor States - The Wars of the Diadochi

Herewith, a SPQR Warlord Games - Alexandrian Successor States game.

I wanted to play these rules again but with something other than Romans and or barbarians. Macedonians and Persians as well as Greeks are in the rules.

I also wanted to field some of my elephants, I used 6 of the 9 HaT ones I have. See: http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/review.aspx?id=573

I also have the two Zvezda ones but they are still unbuilt and are considerably bigger in size. See: http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Review.aspx?id=349

Talking of elephants I feel the SPQR stats are far too overpowered at 16 wounds I therefore gave my units of 3 elephants 15 wounds in total.

I also wanted to use my new terrain pieces a river going into the sea. Have a look at the quick, easy, cheap and storable river.

More of the miniatures used see:

With both sides having elephants and the one sides camp having been plundered it bore some similarities to battles like that of the battle of Gabiene. Given that these wars ranged across a 40 odd year period provides endless possibilities to wargamers. The wars of the Diadochi having extended from 322 to 281 BCE.

An overview of the battlefield, river on the right, sea to the rear with a ship about to drop off troops.

These chaps would pull back in good order across the river making the Persian styled heavy cavalry think twice about charging in.

Do love the speed and agility of light missile bearing cavalry and they played a significant part of this game.

The moment of glory after dispatching the enemy commander these Macedonian styled cavalry pillaged the enemy camp. Having taken advantage of what soon became an obvious gap and flaw in their enemies line.

Sending in the elephants like this really payed off as the two elephants now wreaked havoc on enemy infantry and chariots instead.

So why not pepper an elephant with some arrows - especially when such a nice big target presents its flank to you.

Archers send a hail of horror into the exposed flank of these poor unfortunate footmen.

The amphibious landing proves successful in breaking a phalanx.

What follows is a few pictures mostly from the start of the battle - lines drawn up and rearing to go.

The omens foretell of an impending doom. Damn those goat entrails...

My commander he was killed this was together with the base

Casualties.
