Golgotha's Sci Fi - Rules - Space Wierdos

There is a great review of Space Weirdos available here:

https://gundobadgames.blogspot.com/2021/09/review-space-weirdos-skirmish.html

What impressed me was the author of the reviews comment, regarding over-watch, suppressing fire, and also command points:

“I am increasingly dissatisfied with any shooter skirmish ruleset that ignores things like overwatch or suppressing fire. No need for perfect simulation (!?!?) but let's try to include some element of that, no? Well, Space Weirdos lets players spend a command point to take a shot on overwatch. In other words, every one of your figures is ALWAYS potentially on overwatch, as long as you've got command points left to spend that turn. This keeps an important tactical element in play, without any need to sit around thinking, umm, should I put this guy on overwatch, or that guy? But it's a tradeoff, because those command points are good for lots of other things, too. Dodging into cover; pushing to move just a little bit faster; shooting a little straighter; etc. Or, if you've finished the turn and never found the right way to spend 'em, you can cash in any remaining command points to better your chances at seizing the initiative on the next turn. Your pool of command points is quite small, making each use a deliberate and precious statement about your tactical priorities. All this means a really simple, one-brain-cell command and control system that nonetheless keeps the player engaged in meaningful decision-making throughout every part of the turn. Nicely done, Garske.”

The rules sound surprisingly good. Must give them a try.

Golgotha's Napoleonic - Fistful of Lead - Horse and Musket Game in 1/32nd using Del Prado miniatures

Herewith, a Napoleonic - Fistful of Lead - Horse and Musket Game in 1/32nd (57mm) using Del Prado miniatures. French versus Russians. We all perhaps have a few Del Prado and or large scale miniatures lying around often merely for display purposes so why not get them wargaming too. Fistful of Lead here seems to fit the bill well for a small-scale skirmish using large-scale miniatures.

The scenario saw some cavalry engagement as the French were looking for somewhere to spend the night and so wanted to do some reconnaissance of a barn while the Russians were looking out for any French presence in the area.

Using such large miniatures certainly makes the table look very small so space for such a game could potentially be an issue. The barn here is an old toy and is a rather nice piece - would of course look better painted. More on the trees can be seen here:

The Russian force, considering whether burning the barn and enacting their scorched earth policy will be best here and deny the French any respite.

The miniature on the left below is actually an old Airfix model, a Polish Lancer and therefore not a Russian but for the purposes of this game, he worked. I picked him up second hand and I have another unbuilt - so I want to make that one and touch up this one given how much my son and I enjoyed this game.

The French at this point of the campaign are seemingly still in good order, but they do want somewhere to spend the night...

The barn looks cosy...

I made a dice tray out of an old frame and sprayed it a metallic gold colour works well.

This chap died in the battle a shot to his back whilst he was retreating - not very heroic.

The trumpeter likewise got it in the back - twice in fact once with a sword and lastly a death blow with a musket ball. Ordinarily, in the rules, miniatures have a 360-degree rule, but it made sense with the attacks in this game to have a rear to the miniatures. The game effectively got my 8-year old into Napoleonic gaming and he loved the game and is excited that Fistful of Lead can be used for a number of settings. He won as the French.

The stats and traits used included some made-up traits and house rules - essentially all distances and ranges doubled to reflect the difference in scale and then the trumpeter could inspire his side to move an additional 2 inches and then lances had a combat charge bonus.

Golgotha's Fantasy - Snow and Ice - Giant

Herewith, a giant and he is normally on the side of my barbarians. So e first of the Ice Queen's enemies, but perhaps she has ways to gain control of such creatures...

Golgotha's Fantasy - Snow and Ice - White Dragon

An Ice Queen can always do with a dragon - classic miniature.
