The unveiling ceremony of The Langley Airfield Memorial. For 20 years, Langley, Slough played a substantial role in Britain’s aviation history. Some of the finest fighter and multi role aircraft that served in the RAF and other world air forces that played such a pivotal role in winning the numerous air wars of WWII were made and flew from Langley, Slough.
This airfield also played its part in heralding in the new jet age and helped kick start post war trans-continental commercial air travel before Heathrow was fully established. The importance of this air field has effectively been forgotten over time, with the local populace now totally unaware of just how significant their local aviation heritage is.
Thankfully, this is now going to be rectified. The Airfields of Britain Conservation Trust (ABCT) are fully sponsoring a carved granite memorial, pictured below, which was unveiled on what is left of the original air field, on Saturday October 5th, 11am, at Harvey Park, Tamar Way, Langley, SL3-8TA, with the event having had the complete backing of Slough Council.
